CONSTRUCTION IN HUNGARY TO GROW BY 10 PER CENT IN 2001

The construction sector in Hungary constitutes more than USD 4.4 million in 2000. The largest sectors are contracting and housing sectors, which both constitute USD 1.3 million corresponding to 30 percent each of the total construction.

The growth in construction is caused by industrial and commercial construction as well as civil engineering construction, whereas housing construction will continue to be weak and not experience rapid progression before 2003-2004.

In the 2000s, there will be a generally fair growth in construction – not the least after 2005, when Hungary is expected to be admitted to the EU and thus reach higher economic prosperity for a larger share of the population.
