Growth for Slovakian building in 2000

With the recent change in government, Slovakian society has been in flux. During 1999 this will result in a slowdown of 8 percent in overall building activity because of a freeze on various costly infrastructure projects, as explained in the new report by European Construction Research. However, the building sector will be on the rise in as early as 2000, posting a 0.5 percent gain as a result of new office construction, retail construction, and industrial construction. During 2001, growth will hit 5 percent, and in 2002 a 7 percent increase is expected, thanks to rising foreign investment and an internationally financed campaign to expand the country's infrastructure.

Residential construction will not see significant growth until 2002-2003, when a larger middle class will have developed in the country.

During the 2004-2008 period, 10-12 percent growth rates are expected as all sectors make gains.
